Since mulch is generated in the process of producing compost from yard waste, it is believed that the use of mulch as an alternative daily cover (ADC) will be feasible since this will eliminate the costs of composting. However, mulch has never been evaluated for use as an ADC. This study is designed to evaluate the potential benefits and challenges of the use of vegetative mulch as daily and intermediate landfill cover. Use of mulch as cover material may provide a significant cost savings, could save space in landfills, and could result in carbon sequestration.
